Can I run a Mac app from a DMG on Windows?

No. A Mac app is built for macOS and does not run on Windows or Linux, however it is opened. What you can do is take out its files: pictures, fonts, documents and the settings in its Info.plist, which the PLIST viewer reads.

Can it convert a DMG to an ISO?

No. This page opens the image and saves the files in it. To burn or mount the disk on another system, use a converter such as dmg2img, which is free.

Why does it say it cannot open my DMG?

The image may be encrypted: a DMG protected with a password cannot be read here. It may also be a sparse image (.sparseimage or .sparsebundle), which is a different format, or a download cut short.

Where is the Applications folder the Mac shows in the window?

Most DMGs hold a shortcut to the Mac's Applications folder, for dragging the app onto. It is only a link, with nothing in it, so it is left out of the list.

No. The image is read by this browser tab, with 7-Zip compiled to WebAssembly, and only the parts of it being read are loaded; nothing is sent anywhere.

About the DMG viewer

A .dmg is a Mac disk image: a whole small disk in one file, the way most Mac software is downloaded. On a Mac it opens with a double-click; Windows has nothing that reads one, and neither do Linux or ChromeOS without extra tools. That matters when a download only comes as a .dmg but holds something you can use anywhere, such as fonts, a manual, sample files or a driver, or when you want to look at what is in one before handing it to a Mac user.

This page opens the image, finds the disk inside it (HFS+ or APFS, compressed or not) and lists every file, with apps shown as the folders of files they are. It is free to use, with no account and no upload limit, and it runs entirely in your browser: nothing is uploaded, and while the page stays open, a feature you have already used keeps working offline.

What you can do

See every file in a .dmg, with its folder and size
Preview text files and images inside it
Save one file, or all of them with their folders kept
Open compressed images (zlib, bzip2, LZFSE, XZ) as well as plain ones, and images of several gigabytes
