Can I open a Windows Backup or system image (.vhdx) here?

Yes. Windows' system image backups are .vhdx files, one for each drive backed up, and the files on them can be listed and saved here. A disk encrypted with BitLocker cannot be read.

The disk has several partitions. Which one is shown?

Accepted Answer

All of them that hold a filesystem it can read, each under its own folder: Partition 1, Partition 2 and so on. On a Windows virtual machine's disk that is usually a small boot partition and the large one that was its C: drive. A partition with nothing readable on it, such as Microsoft's reserved partition, is left out.

Question 3

My VMDK came with other files. Which one do I open?

A VMware disk is often split: a small .vmdk that only describes the disk, and one or more large files ending in -flat.vmdk or -s001.vmdk holding the data. Open a single-file disk directly; a split one cannot be opened here as one piece.

Question 4

Can it open a snapshot or differencing disk?

Accepted Answer

Not usefully. A snapshot (.avhdx, or a VMware delta disk) holds only what changed since its parent disk was made, so open the parent disk to see the files.

Is my disk uploaded?

No. The disk file is read by this browser tab, with 7-Zip compiled to WebAssembly; nothing is sent anywhere.
