Paste Markdown, or open .md files, and get a Word document (.docx) that is built the way Word expects: headings use Word's Heading 1 to Heading 6 styles, so the navigation pane and a table of contents work; lists are real Word lists that renumber themselves; tables have a header row; and maths becomes Word equations you can edit. It is free to use, with no account and no upload limit, and it runs entirely in your browser: nothing is uploaded, and while the page stays open, a feature you have already used keeps working offline.
It is made for answers from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and other AI chats, which are written in Markdown and lose their tables, code and formulas when pasted straight into Word. Writing in Markdown already? Use the Markdown Editor, which has a Save as Word button too.
- How do I get a ChatGPT answer into Word without losing the formatting?
- Use the copy button under the answer (not a mouse selection): it copies the answer as Markdown. Paste that here and press Save as Word. Headings, bullet points, tables and code blocks come out as Word's own, and formulas written as \(…\) or \[…\] become Word equations. The same works for Claude, Gemini, Copilot and Perplexity answers.
- Do the equations stay editable in Word?
- Yes. Each formula is read as TeX by MathJax and written as a Word equation (Office Math), the kind Insert › Equation makes, so you can click into it and change it. A formula MathJax cannot read is kept as its original text in code style, and the page tells you how many.
- What happens to pictures in the Markdown?
- A picture written into the Markdown as a data: address is embedded. A picture named by a file path () is embedded if you add that file with Add pictures or drop it with the .md file; otherwise a note marks its place. Pictures on the web are never downloaded - fetching them would tell those sites you opened the document - so each becomes a link in the Word file instead.
- Does Markdown with HTML in it work?
- The words do. HTML tags are left out of the Word document and the preview, keeping the text inside them; line breaks (<br>), superscript, subscript, underline and highlight tags are honoured. Scripts are dropped entirely, and only web and email links are kept as links.
- Why does Word ask to update fields when I open the file?
- That is the table of contents. Word works out page numbers itself, so the document asks it to update the table when it opens; say Yes. Without the table of contents option there is nothing to update and Word does not ask. Programs that do not update fields show the headings without page numbers.
- Is this the same as pandoc?
- It does the common part of what pandoc does for Markdown to .docx - real styles, lists, tables, footnotes, equations - without installing anything or typing commands. It is not pandoc: it does not take reference documents, citations or Lua filters.
