What age is this aimed at?

Primary school arithmetic - the number facts children are expected to recall rather than work out. The number range is adjustable, so it stretches from early addition up to times tables and beyond.

Should I use a time limit?

Not at first. Accuracy comes before speed, and a timer on a child who is still working the answers out teaches anxiety rather than arithmetic. Add it once the facts are known and you want recall to become automatic.

Is there an account or any record kept?

No account, and no record. Results are shown at the end of a run and then gone - nothing is stored, and nobody is tracked from one session to the next.

Where does the marking happen?

Unlike most tools on this site, this one uses the server: the problems are generated and the answers are marked by an API on johnmcm.com, so a set of answers is sent there to be scored. Nothing is written down or kept once the run is graded.

Question 5

Why 10, 25, 50 or 100 problems?

Accepted Answer

Ten for a quick check, twenty-five for a normal practice session, and the longer sets for building stamina. A short set done daily beats a long one done occasionally.
