Free online document viewers and tools

Open Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Project, Publisher, ebooks and other documents without the program that made them, in your browser, with nothing uploaded.

Most of the files on this page arrive from someone else: a Project plan from a contractor, a Visio diagram from IT, a Publisher newsletter, a Pages document from the one colleague with a Mac. Buying the program to read one file is poor value, and uploading a work document to a stranger's converter is worse. These viewers open them in your own browser instead.

The DOC Viewer opens a .docx for reading and quick edits, though it is for getting at the content rather than producing a final document, and an old .doc gets only a rough scrape of its text. The PowerPoint Viewer shows a .pptx with its speaker notes, plays it full screen and saves it as a PDF, the MPP Viewer opens a Microsoft Project plan - its tasks, Gantt chart and resources - without Project, and the Visio Viewer opens .vsd and .vsdx diagrams and saves them as PDF, PNG or SVG. The Publisher Viewer shows a .pub file's pages, the OneNote Viewer opens sections and notebooks and saves them as HTML or Markdown, the Pages, Numbers and Keynote viewer gets the text, tables and pictures out of an Apple document on a machine with no Apple software, and the Works Viewer opens Microsoft Works files, and old Lotus 1-2-3 and Quattro Pro ones, and saves them as Word or Excel. The Excel Viewer is listed here too, though it lives with the data tools.

For reading, the EPUB Reader opens ebooks, the CHM Viewer opens an old Windows .chm help file on any computer, searches it and saves it as PDF or Markdown, the HLP Viewer does the same for the older WinHelp .hlp files that Windows 10 and 11 no longer open, and the Calendar Viewer makes an .ics file readable before you let it near your real calendar.

When a file will not cooperate, Repair Office File rebuilds a .docx, .xlsx or .pptx that will not open from everything in it that survived, and Unprotect Excel takes the sheet and workbook protection off an Excel file, and the editing lock off a Word or PowerPoint file, even without the password. For Italian e-invoices, the Fattura Elettronica viewer (the page is in Italian) opens FatturaPA .xml and signed .xml.p7m files, checks the signature and saves a PDF copy. All free, no account, nothing uploaded.
