Will the Word document look exactly like the PDF?

Close, but a PDF fixes every letter in place and a Word document flows, so there are small differences: line breaks can fall a word earlier or later, especially if the PDF's fonts are not on your computer and Word substitutes them. Text, paragraphs, tables and pictures are kept; charts and drawings made of lines (other than table borders) are not carried across, and neither are links or form fields.

Can it convert a scanned PDF?

A scan is a picture of a page with no text in it, so its pages go into the document as pictures. To get text you can edit, run the scan through the OCR Toolkit first and convert its searchable PDF here; a scan that already has a text layer converts as text.

Can it convert a password-protected PDF?

Not while it is locked. If you know the password, open the PDF with the Unlock PDF tool, save the unlocked copy, and convert that.

Is my PDF uploaded to convert it?

No. The PDF is read and the Word document is made in your browser, on your computer. Nothing is sent to a server.

About this PDF to Word converter

Free PDF to Word converters usually cap the number of pages or conversions, want an account, and upload the document to their servers first. This one reads the PDF in your browser and builds the Word document there, however many pages it has. It is free to use, with no account and no upload limit, and it runs entirely in your browser: nothing is uploaded, and while the page stays open, a feature you have already used keeps working offline.

Each page is read with pdf.js: every piece of text with its font, size, weight and colour, every picture where it is drawn, and every table the page rules out with lines. The text is then put back together as real paragraphs - lines joined, indents, alignment, bullets and line spacing kept - rather than a box per line, so the document can be edited and reflows like one written in Word. Two-column pages stay in two columns, each page keeps its size and margins, and tables become Word tables.

Turn ruled tables into Word tables and keep pictures where they were
Convert PDFs of any length, with nothing uploaded
