Convert comic book archives to PDF so they open in any PDF reader, print, or go onto an e-reader, tablet or phone that has no comic app. A .cbz is a ZIP of page pictures, a .cbr a RAR, a .cb7 a 7z and a .cbt a TAR; all four are read here, and so are .cbr files that are really ZIPs inside. Pages are put in the order a person would read them, so page2 comes before page10, and hidden macOS files and anything that is not a picture are left out. It is free to use, with no account and no upload limit, and it runs entirely in your browser: nothing is uploaded, and while the page stays open, a feature you have already used keeps working offline.
JPEG pages go into the PDF byte for byte and PNG pages losslessly, so the PDF looks exactly like the comic. WebP, GIF, BMP and AVIF pages are redrawn as JPEG, or PNG when they have transparency. It also works the other way: a PDF becomes a .cbz for comic readers. To read a comic without converting it, open it in the CBR & CBZ Reader; to make a PDF from loose pictures, use JPG to PDF.
- Does converting a CBZ to PDF lose quality?
- Not for JPEG and PNG pages, which is nearly every comic: a JPEG is placed in the PDF exactly as it is stored in the archive, and a PNG is kept lossless. Only WebP, GIF, BMP and AVIF pages are redrawn, because a PDF cannot hold those formats; they are saved as high-quality JPEG, or PNG when they have transparency.
- Why are the pages of my comic in the wrong order in other converters?
- Many tools sort file names letter by letter, which puts page10 before page2. This page sorts them the way a person reads numbers, so page2 comes before page10, and folders inside the archive are kept in order too.
- Can it convert CBR files?
- Yes. CBR comics are RAR archives, unpacked here with libarchive, which reads RAR 4 and RAR 5. Password-protected RAR and 7z comics cannot be opened, and one part of a multi-part RAR set is not enough on its own. Archives up to 1 GB are opened; the pictures of one comic can add up to 1 GB.
- What does the right-to-left setting do?
- It marks the PDF to read right to left, as Japanese manga do. PDF readers that honour it lay out two-page spreads from right to left. The pages themselves stay in the same order. On "as the comic says", a comic whose ComicInfo.xml says Manga: YesAndRightToLeft is marked automatically.
- Can I turn a PDF into a CBZ?
- Yes: drop the PDF here. When a page is nothing but one JPEG picture, as in most scanned comics and PDFs made from comics, that picture is taken out exactly as stored. Other pages are drawn at the resolution you choose and saved as JPEG. The pages are numbered 001.jpg, 002.jpg and so on, so every comic reader sorts them correctly, and a ComicInfo.xml with the PDF's title is added.
- Are my comics uploaded?
- No. The archive is unpacked and the PDF made by code running in this browser tab. Nothing is sent anywhere, so it works on private scans and does not need an account or a daily limit.
