Can I install a WOFF or WOFF2 font I open here?

Not as it is: WOFF and WOFF2 are compressed web fonts that computers do not install. The Font Converter turns them into TTF or OTF files you can install.

What are embedding permissions and why do they matter?

A flag inside the font saying whether it may be embedded in a document or a website, and how. It is a licensing signal you cannot see from a file listing, and it is worth checking before you ship a font in a PDF or a web page - which the licence itself may also restrict.

How do I tell if a font has the characters I need?

The glyph list shows what is actually in the file, with the total count - the first 300 straight away, and the rest with Show more or Show all. A font that looks complete often turns out to be missing accented characters or currency symbols, which you would otherwise find out at the worst moment.

Does it tell me the licence?

It shows the licensing information recorded inside the file. That is what the designer put there, not a substitute for reading the actual licence you bought or downloaded.

Is the font uploaded?

No. It is parsed in the page with opentype.js, so a commercial font you have licensed is not being sent anywhere.

About this font viewer

Open a TTF, OTF, WOFF or WOFF2 file to see its family and style names, its metrics, the glyphs it actually contains, and the embedding permissions recorded in the file. To change its format, use the Font Converter.

The embedding bits matter before you use a font on a website or in a PDF, and they are not something a file listing will tell you. It is free to use, with no account and no upload limit, and it runs entirely in your browser: nothing is uploaded, and while the page stays open, a feature you have already used keeps working offline.
