How much smaller do files actually get?

An SVG straight out of Illustrator, Figma or Inkscape is usually a third to two-thirds editor bookkeeping - generator comments, unused definitions, absurd coordinate precision. Hand-written SVG is already lean and will barely move.

Will it change how my image looks?

It should not. SVGO's default plugins are the ones considered safe. Check the preview anyway, particularly for anything using filters, clip paths or embedded fonts.

Does it keep my IDs and classes?

IDs are kept unless you tick Remove IDs, since the optimiser cannot see a stylesheet or script outside the file that hooks into them. With it ticked, IDs nothing in the file refers to are removed and the rest shortened - if an icon then stops animating, that is why.

Is this the real SVGO?

Yes, SVGO 4 itself running in your browser, with its default preset and three differences: IDs are kept unless you tick Remove IDs, scripts and event handlers are always removed, and it runs several passes unless you untick Multipass. A build pipeline with the same settings gives the same result.

No. It is optimised in the page, which matters for an unreleased logo or a client's brand assets.

Strip editor cruft out of an exported SVG — entirely in your browser

MultipassReadable outputRemove IDsDrop width/heightPrecision

Optimised out

Compare the two previews before you use the result — aggressive precision can visibly distort curves. IDs are kept unless you tick Remove IDs, because CSS and script often refer to them from outside the file.

About this SVG optimizer

Strips the editor metadata, unused definitions, empty groups and excess precision that drawing programs leave in an exported SVG, and shows the size before and after.

An icon exported from a design tool is routinely several times larger than it needs to be, and none of what is removed here affects how it draws. It is free to use, with no account and no upload limit, and it runs entirely in your browser: nothing is uploaded, and while the page stays open, a feature you have already used keeps working offline.

What you can do

Shrink an SVG with SVGO, with the size before and after and the percentage saved
Open, drop or paste an .svg file or SVG markup; a compressed .svgz is unpacked first, and saved as a plain .min.svg
Removes editor metadata, comments, unused definitions and empty groups
Preview the original and the optimised drawing side by side
Set the decimal precision of coordinates, from 0 to 8
Optionally remove unused IDs, drop the width and height, or keep the output readable
Scripts and event handlers are always stripped out
Copy the result or download it as a .min.svg
A warning when the file points at another server

How to shrink an SVG

Open or drop an .svg file, or paste the markup. There is a Sample if you want to see what it does.
It is optimised straight away, and the before and after sizes are shown.
Check the preview - the whole point is that the picture should look identical.
Copy the result or download it as a .min.svg.
