How is the signature checked?

The page checks that the document matches what was signed and that the signature was made with the private key belonging to the certificate in the file. It shows that certificate's details, but does not look it up in the official EU trusted lists or check whether it was revoked, which needs an online service; for a check with legal standing, use qualified verification software such as the free tools from Italian trust service providers.

Why does my file end in .p7m.p7m?

It was signed twice: a second person signed the already signed file, wrapping it again. The page opens each layer in turn, checks every signature and gives you the original document.

Can I open an Italian invoice (.xml.p7m) as a PDF?

Yes. The invoice is shown here; to save it as a PDF copy, with its attachments, use the Italian e-invoice viewer, which reads the same files.

Is my signed file uploaded?

No. The file is read and the signature checked by this browser tab; nothing is sent anywhere.

Free online P7M viewer: open signed .p7m files

About the P7M viewer

A .p7m file is a document wrapped in a digital signature: the original file, a PDF, a Word document or an XML invoice, sealed together with the signer's certificate in the CMS (PKCS#7) format. It is how qualified electronic signatures are usually delivered in Italy and elsewhere in the EU under the eIDAS rules, which is why files arrive named contract.pdf.p7m or invoice.xml.p7m. Without signing software, the document inside cannot be opened.

This page reads the wrapper, checks each signature, and gives you the document inside, ready to save and open with the usual program. When the document is an Italian electronic invoice (FatturaPA), it is shown laid out to read. It is free to use, with no account and no upload limit, and it runs entirely in your browser: nothing is uploaded, and while the page stays open, a feature you have already used keeps working offline.

What you can do

Open any .p7m file, in binary or base64 form, signed once or several times
See who signed it: name, tax code, organisation, and the certificate's issuer and dates
Check that the document has not been changed since it was signed and that each signature is valid
Save the document inside under its own name, such as contract.pdf
Read an Italian electronic invoice (.xml.p7m) straight away
