Why does the result look soft or smudged sometimes?

The model invents each fill at 512 by 512 pixels, which is plenty for most objects but has to be scaled up for a very large area on a big photo. It also does best when what is behind the object is simple: sky, grass, a wall, a road. Remove large things in several smaller strokes, and touch up what is left with another stroke or the healing brush.

Does it reduce the quality of the photo?

No. Only the pixels inside and just around each stroke change; the rest of the photo is kept exactly as it was, at its full resolution. A JPEG is saved again at high quality, which is the only change to the untouched parts.

Can I use it on photos of other people?

Accepted Answer

On your own photos, yes: tidying a holiday picture, taking a stranger out of the background, clearing clutter from a product shot. Do not use it to change what a photo shows in a way that misleads, and do not use it to take a photographer's name or copyright mark off a picture that is not yours.

What is the difference between the eraser and spot heal?

The eraser uses the AI model to invent what is behind something, which suits objects and people. Spot heal copies texture from right beside a small mark and blends its colour in, which suits skin blemishes, sensor dust and scratches, and is instant. It takes spots up to about 240 pixels across.

Is the photo uploaded?

Accepted Answer

No. It is opened, edited and saved by your browser on your computer. The AI model (about 29 MB) is downloaded from this site the first time you use the eraser, then the browser keeps it.
