A voice recorder that works in the browser on a phone, tablet or computer, with no app to install and no account. Press Start recording, speak, and press Stop: the take appears underneath, ready to play back. Record as many takes as you like, keep the best one, cut the silence or the false start off its beginning and end, and save it as an MP3 that plays everywhere, an M4A, or an uncompressed WAV.
The sound is recorded by your browser and stays in this tab on your device. Nothing is sent to this site or anywhere else, and nothing is kept after the tab is closed unless you download it. It is free to use, with no time limit beyond the four hours a single take can run.
- How do I record a voice memo as an MP3?
- Record the take, press Trim and save as MP3, M4A or WAV, leave MP3 chosen and press Download. The MP3 is 256 kbps, which plays on any phone, computer, car stereo or website. The browser itself records Opus (WebM or Ogg) or, on an iPhone, AAC (M4A), so Download keeps that original file without converting it.
- Can I record my voice on an iPhone or Android phone?
- Yes. On an iPhone or iPad use Safari (or any browser there, which uses the same engine) on iOS 14.5 or later; the recording is an M4A with AAC sound. On Android, Chrome, Edge, Samsung Internet and Firefox all work. Keep the page open and in front while recording: if you switch apps or lock the phone, the browser may pause or stop the microphone. Where the browser supports it the page keeps the screen awake while recording.
- Is my recording saved anywhere?
- No. The takes are kept in this browser tab's memory only, which is why the page warns before you close it. Nothing is uploaded. Download each take you want to keep: on a computer it goes to your Downloads folder, on an iPhone to the Files app, and on Android to Downloads.
- How long can I record?
- A single take can run up to four hours, or about 1 GB, after which it stops by itself and keeps what was recorded; the page points out when a take passes an hour. Takes of up to an hour can be trimmed and converted here; a longer one can be downloaded as recorded. An hour of speech recorded as Opus is about 60 MB.
- The browser says the microphone is blocked. How do I allow it?
- In Chrome or Edge, click the icon at the left of the address bar, set Microphone to Allow and reload. In Firefox, click the microphone icon in the address bar and clear the block. On an iPhone, open Settings, Safari, Microphone (or tap aA in the address bar, Website Settings). If the browser is allowed but there is still no sound, the computer may be blocking it: on Windows, Settings, Privacy & security, Microphone; on a Mac, System Settings, Privacy & Security, Microphone. The Mic Test page checks the microphone step by step.
- Should I leave noise suppression on?
- For speech, yes: noise suppression takes out steady background sound such as a fan, echo cancellation stops speakers feeding back into the microphone, and automatic volume evens out loud and quiet speaking. For music, singing or an instrument, turn all three off in Microphone settings, as they can make it sound thin or pump the volume. After recording, Trim and save also has a Reduce background noise option.
- What happens if my headset disconnects while recording?
- The take stops and everything recorded up to that moment is kept under Your takes. Plug it back in, choose it under Microphone settings if needed, and record another take.
