How do I resize an image to 100 KB or less?

Tick "Make each file under", choose 100 KB (or type any number), and drop the picture on the page. It is saved as a JPG (or WebP) at the best quality that comes in under 100 KB; if the picture is very large, it is also made smaller in pixels. If the form also asks for a size in pixels, set the width and height first and the size limit is worked out from there. For exact pixel sizes, a dpi value or a minimum size as well, use Compress Image to KB.

Does keeping the aspect ratio mean the picture is not stretched?

Yes. With Keep aspect ratio ticked, each picture is scaled by the same amount across and down, as large as fits in the width and height you give, so a portrait and a landscape photo each keep their own shape. Untick it to stretch every picture to exactly that width and height, which distorts any picture of a different shape.

What is the difference between resizing and compressing?

Resizing changes the number of pixels, for example from 4000 × 3000 to 1200 × 900, which makes the picture smaller on screen and the file much smaller too. Compressing keeps the pixels and lowers the JPG or WebP quality to save space. A size limit in KB uses both: quality first, then fewer pixels only when quality alone cannot reach it.

Can I make a picture bigger?

Yes: tick Enlarge smaller pictures and type a larger width, untick Keep aspect ratio for an exact size, or use a percent over 100. Enlarging only spreads the same detail over more pixels, so the picture looks softer. To enlarge with detail added back, use the AI Image Upscaler.

JPG, PNG or WebP: which should I choose?

JPG for photos: small files that open everywhere. PNG for screenshots, logos and pictures with transparent parts; it keeps every pixel but files are larger. WebP is smaller than JPG at the same quality and keeps transparency, and websites and modern browsers read it, though some older programs and forms do not.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. The pictures are opened and resized by your browser on your computer or phone, and saved straight from the page; nothing is sent anywhere.

About this image resizer

Change the size of a photo or a whole folder of pictures at once: to a width or height in pixels, keeping each picture's shape, to an exact width and height, or by a percentage. Save them as JPG, PNG or WebP, one by one or all together in a ZIP. Each picture's new size in pixels and in KB is shown before you save it.

Many forms, job portals, school and government sites only accept a photo under a certain size, such as 100 KB or 200 KB. Tick "Make each file under" and choose the limit: for each picture the page finds the best quality that fits, and if even a low quality is still too big, makes the picture smaller step by step until it does. Pictures are read and resized by your browser, so there is no upload, no queue and no sign-up. It is free to use, with no account and no upload limit, and it runs entirely in your browser: nothing is uploaded, and while the page stays open, a feature you have already used keeps working offline.
